I Don't Understand Flickr

Comments

Hi there; I'm not in your neighbourhood but I found you through the Vox Explore page. I"m afraid I can't offer any insight into Flikr. But I also vastly prefer "The Visitor". The simplicity of the palette with the one jolt of colour; the regularity/irregularity of the headstones, the reas of shadow and light, the organic, natural composition and of course the poignant but not overt contrast between life/death make for a very strong image. I find the other one contrived. The plane ruins it for me. Sorry.

Fit Like? (as they say round my parts). I have to say that I think Fickr has got this right. I don't know why, but The Visitor is much more pleasing to the eye. Like brownamazon says, the combination of the regularity and irregularity make this great, while the plane is a distraction in the second shot. How an "interesting bot" can tell the difference is a near miracle to me.

Nice work.

As the others have stated I do prefer The Visitor over the other shot. It just has more of an impact at initial viewing. The other shot, looks a bit too busy, with so many elements in them, the moon, airplane, and tree-line, that I can't get a real feel for the shot. The Visitor just evokes an emotional response, there's a vastness to the shot, and the lone bit of red in a see of white, is somehow a cheery symbol in such a stark place meant for grieving. The Visitor just resonates while the second shot, while nice, just doesn't evoke anything beyond the initial recognition of a good picture.
i'd love to know what flickr's interestingness 'formula' is!!
