Point well made.

I totally agree with you. I often see in Flickr pictures that are not that great (OK, that's subjective) from people owning Canon 1D mark III and the such. Yet instead I see wonderful shots made with much modest hardware (phone, point&shoot camera, etc.).
I would say - it's the phograph that makes the picture, not the camera.

PS: I also agree on the post-processing point you make. Personally I don't like spending hours on my computer to make pictures look what they are not, and also sometimes they are so much (over-)processed that become computer art and are not photographs anymore.
I.e.: Pictures in Flickt that go into Explore and look like paintings or computer art should be removed in my opinion... ;)

Definitely agreed.

Most people spend time on Flickr to post their pictures and try to find an audience ; where the real point is in there, you can find enough inspiration to fill up your whole image-producing life !

On Photoshop, I agree also. When one's take a picture, he should know already what he will do with it in post-processing. It takes thoughts, experience & talent. 3 of those can be worked out.

By the way, I recommend the last book from Annie Leibovitz, a good to see what's in the mind of a photographer, before, during and after the shooting.
check out laidoutinlavender.vox.com She's got a terrific eye, very awe-shucks about her photography, but it's quite beautiful.
