Things I Threw Out This Weekend
I continued to try and renounce my pack-rat tendencies by attacking my home-office closet this weekend. It had turned into one of those comedy closets where I opened the door just long enough to throw something else in, slamming it shut before the stacks of treasures had time to tumble out. I've had the components to build out the closet since around Thanksgiving; when Saturday rolled around I decided it was finally time to stop procrastinating and rolled up my sleeves. Things I threw out in the process included:
- Chargers and cases from cell phones that were donated years ago.
- More Wired magazines.
- Boxes for video cards I kept just in case some problem came up and I needed to send them back - the cards themselves sit in computers long retired and sitting in the basement (which is a whole other story - I need to gain strength and accomplish small victories before attacking the monster that is the basement).
- Broken headphones I would never get round to repairing and which weren't worth the effort of repairing anyway.
- Two old wallets - one had thirty pounds sterling inside it (obviously, I didn't throw out the cash) - score!
- A bag or rubber bands so old that stretching them caused them to immediately fail.
- Lens cleaning fluid labeled 30 pence.
In the other column, things I couldn't give up for whatever reason included boxes for all the Canon equipment I have bought even though most things are long past their warranty periods and I never intend to sell them. I guess I still have a lot of work to do.
